Kids on the Move

Kids on the Move: Afterschool Programs Promoting Healthy Eating and Physical Activity is a special report completed as part of the Afterschool Alliance’s study, America After 3 PM. The publication concentrates on parents’ reports of efforts made by afterschool programs to help improve the health and physical fitness of children and youth around the country. It also describes areas where afterschool programs can better meet the needs of students and families when it comes to health and wellness and outlines steps afterschool programs can take to help make positive change for students’ overall health.

Healthy Habits Curriculum

The National AfterSchool Association and the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation have partnered to provide the “Enrichment Zone,” a free curriculum for afterschool programs focused on promoting energy balance. The Enrichment Zone resources explain to students the concepts of “Energy In” (food and nutrition-related activities) and “Energy Out” (physical activities). It focuses particularly on the “Energy Out” aspect to help afterschool programs guarantee students get the daily 60 minutes of physical activity recommended by the National Afterschool Association Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards.
